Do I need to have boat license to rent a boat or a jet ski in Portugal?
Answer:
According to Portuguese law, a navigation license is required to rent any boat or jet ski. If you don’t have a navigation license, you can always choose to charter the boat with one of our experienced skippers, who will take you on an amazing journey through the Algarve coast.
Question:
How can I get a navigation license?
Answer:
You can choose to take a Portuguese navigation license with a 2/3 months course, or you can take a RYA license with a 1 to 3 days course.

Do I need to show my boat license on the rental day?
Answer:
Yes. You should send a scan/photo of your boat license to the e-mail prorent@angelpilot.com 2 days before the rental and show us the original during the check-in.
The license must also be produced on demand by the relevant authorities.
Question:
Can I cruise near the coast?
Answer:
It is mandatory to keep a distance of at least 300 meters from the beach. It is forbidden to go to the beach. You can get close to shore with caution, bearing in mind that our coast has a rocky and irregular bottom.
Question:
Is there a maximum limit to how far I can go?
Answer:
Yes it has. The limit depends on the registration of the boat and the limit on your navigation license. About the boats registration:
- Class 5 - All our boats up to 8.5 meters - within a 3 mile radius of any harbour.
- Class 4 - All our boats over 8.5 meters - up to 25 miles from any harbour and up to 6 miles from the coast;
Question:
I do have a navigation license but I don't have much experience. Can I still rent a boat?
Answer:
If you don’t feel comfortable manoeuvring and docking the boat by yourself, you can choose one of the two options below:
- Rent the boat with a skipper (extra), will go with you and give you some tips;
- Include our Fuel no Stress service and avoid the risk of mooring at the petrol station: when purchasing the NO STRESS Fuel service, the boat / jet ski will be delivered with a full tank of fuel and at the time of return, it will not be necessary to refuel.

Safety and equipment
Question:
Do I need to wear a life-jacket?
Answer:
All our boats include one life-jacket per passenger but it’s not mandatory to wear them.
Question:
Does the boat have life-jackets for adults and children?
Answer:
All our boats include one adult life-jacket per passenger. Life-jackets for children must be requested by e-mail until 8am of the day of the rental. When doing so, please send us the age and weight of the child or children.
Question:
Does the boat have a VHF Radio?
Answer:
Our boats up to 8,5m don’t have a VHF Radio, but the ones with more than 8,5m do.
Question:
Do I need to have VHF operator license?
Answer:
Yes, if you rent boats with VHF.
Question:
Is the boat equipped with GPS and depth finder?
Answer:
All our boats are equipped with GPS and depth finder, except for the jet skis.
Question:
What should I do in case of engine breakdown?
Answer:
For your safety, all our boats are equipped with a GPS tracking device. In case of engine breakdown, please contact us on +351 917 999 810 to solve the problem with remote support. If this is not possible, we will either ask you to come back in order to check the problem or one of our technician will meet you.

Question:
Am I going to see dolphins?
Answer:
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that clients will see Dolphins or other wildlife during their rental, it is a matter of luck.
Question:
Can I visit the caves?
Answer:
The answer to this question depends on your experience and weather conditions. There are more than 20 caves with different difficulty levels. During the check-in ask the staff about that possibility.

How far in advance should I book my rental?
Answer:
For high season rental, you should book as soon as possible to ensure that the boat you want is available. For the remaining periods, we advise 2 days in advance.
Question:
How do I know that my booking is confirmed?
Answer:
Your booking is confirmed upon receipt of the booking confirmation and contract by email. The confirmation will be sent upon receipt of the initial payment in our bank account.

Is it possible to rent a boat or jet ski for half-day?
Answer:
Some of your boats are available for half-day rentals. This possibility can be verified in the online booking system. Half-day prices are only 20% lower than the daily rate, since the check-in, check-out and cleaning times are the same. We always therefore advise you to choose full-day rentals.

How many hours are the rentals?
Answer:
Half-day rental 3 hours and full-day 7 hours. Last Schedule that we do is from 11am to 6pm

What time can I collect and deliver the boat?
Answer:
For daily rentals, the pick-up time varies between 9:30 am and 11:00 am and the delivery time between 4:30 pm and 6:00 pm. Delivery and pick-up times vary by boat and can be checked on the online reservation system.

Where is the departure?
Answer:
All our boats are located in Portimão. For boats up to 8,5m, the meeting point is Clube Naval de Portimão, click here to see on google maps. For bigger boats, the meeting point is Marina de Portimão, click here to see on google maps.
Question:
Is it possible to embark in another port/marina?
Answer:
Yes. It is possible by paying a variable tax, because each port has a different and generally high embarking rate. For this reason, we advise you to embark in Portimão.
Question:
Can I rent the boat with or without skipper?
Answer:
Boats up to 8,5m can be rented without skipper IF you have a valid navigation license. Bigger boats can also be rented without skipper, only by captains with experience in boats of equal or greater size. Contact us for more information.
Question:
Is the skipper service included?
Answer:
No. The skipper has an extra cost that varies between 120€ and 300€, depending on the boat. Customers can check the price in the booking system or contact us.

What´s included in the price?
Answer:
The price includes only the rental. All extras and associated prices can be checked, as well as included in your contract, through the online reservation system.

Our rental agreement provides a full to full policy. If the customer wants to buy the NO STRESS Fuel service, the boat / jet ski will be delivered with a full tank of fuel and at the time of return it will not be necessary to refuel, avoiding the risks of mooring and waste of time. Unused fuel will NOT be refunded.

Is it possible to rent extras?
Answer:
Yes. It is possible to rent several extras when making your reservation online, or even afterwards. Each boat has several options, including but not limited to sports equipment (wakeboard, ski and towables), cool box, hammocks, catering services and others. Extras have an additional cost and are subject to availability. If you want to add an extra not listed in our options, do not hesitate to contact us.

On the day of the rental
Question:
Which documents do I need to have before pick-up the boat?
Answer:
You need to have your boat license, your ID and a valid credit card with amount available for the deposit.
Question:
There is going to be someone to delivery the boat and explain how it works?
Answer:
Yes. The boat is always delivered by someone of Pro Rent Staff thats going to meet you in the same location send it to the e-mail. He also is going to do a quick briefing and explain all the safety rules. In the end of the day, he will be wainting for you in the same place where you leave with the boat.
Insurance and damage
Question:
What kind of insurance is included in the rental?
Answer:
The boat is insured with a third party cover. Full coverage insurance is available for an extra cost that can go from 60€ to 300€/day depending on the boat with variable excess.
When purchasing the full coverage insurance, the client will deposit the insurance excess and in this case, in the event of causing damage to the boat, the client will pay at the most, the amount of the insurance excess.
Subject to insurance conditions. The client may have access to the insurance conditions upon request.

Payment methods, deposit and cancellation
Question:
When do i need to pay the rental?
Answer:
If its made online, the rental its already paid in total. In other cases, you need to pay 50% of the rental value to confirm the Booking. The remaining 50% must be paid 4 weeks before the rental day.
Question:
What kind of payments do you accept?
Answer:
Online bookings are made with credit card. Presential booking can be made in cash, ATM or credit card. We dont accept American Express.
Question:
Do i need to pay a deposit?
Answer:
Yes you do. Before you leave with the boat, you need to do the deposit. You can do it in credit card or cash. Pro Rent reserves the right to cancel the booking, without any refund, if you are unable to pay the deposit.
Question:
Can i cancel my Booking?
Answer:
You can cancel until 8 weeks in advance. In that case you will be refund in 90%. The remaning 10% represents the processing tax. With less than 8 weeks you can cancel the rental, however, you will not be refund.
In the end of the rental
Question:
When should i return with the boat?
Answer:
The boat must be returned to the same place where it was picked up no later than the hour that is in the rental contract. Pro Rent has a tolerance limit of 15 min. From those 15 min, a tax of 30€ for every 15 min late will be charged.
Question:
Do i need to clean the boat after the rental?
Answer:
No you dont. Cleaning is included in the rental, HOWEVER, if the boat is delivered extremely dirty, a tax of 50€ will be charged to boats up to 8,5m and 100€ to boats with more than 8,5m.
Question:
Do i need to return the boat with the fuel tank full?
Answer:
Our contract includes a full to full policy, which means that the boat is delivered full and it needs to return also full. You can always choose for our service “Fuel no Stress” so the boat will be delivered with a full tank of fuel and at the time of return it will not be necessary to refuel, avoiding the risks of mooring and waste of time. Unused fuel will NOT be refunded.

When I return, will there be someone to help me dock?
Answer:
Always! You should contact us when you are refueling. Our office is 15 min from the harbour.

What should i do if the deposit is still blocked in my bank account after the cancellation?
Answer:
You must send the proof of cancellation, that was delivered to you in the end of the rental, to your bank and ask for a cancellation.
